No more AI slop on your indie artists favorite music platform! On January 13,2026 through a blog post by Bandcamp, the streaming service announced its block on all AI-generated content.

With the rise of generative AI content everywhere, it has inevitably seeped into music as well. You would think it would be simple to determine whether the music you’re listening to is generated through a a simple chat prompt, but this isn’t always the case. Many AI ‘Artists’ have made its way to billboard and top charts, some gaining almost up to a million monthly listeners from impersonating or pretending to be human. Bandcamp is officially the first music platform to put a full stop on this rapid issue.

Stating their stance, they wrote “We believe that the human connection found through music is a vital part of our society and culture, and that music is much more than a product to be consumed. It’s the result of a human cultural dialog stretching back before the written word.”

Elaborating further, Bandcamp noted that the platform “was built to directly connect artists and their fans, and to make it easy for fans to support artists equitably so that they can keep making music.”

“Today we are fortifying our mission by articulating our policy on generative AI, so that musicians can keep making music, and so that fans have confidence that the music they find on Bandcamp was created by humans.”

This ban includes music and audio that is generated wholly or in substantial part by AI and any use of AI tools to impersonate other artists or styles.

Users are encouraged to report to Bandcamp’s team if any generative AI music is found and would be removed from the service.
