Independent female singer-songwriter Cassie Bouchard has released her latest single, “Since I Got Here,” a dreamy indie pop track that solidifies her sound as an emerging artist. Bouchard uses her songwriting as a therapeutic act, “since she only has access to her therapist for 45 minutes per week.” In being able to relay her emotions through her tracks, she conveys her emotions through her complex songwriting style and lyricism.
Cassie Bouchard expresses her desires to feel connected to other people on an intimate level, something that she outlines throughout the track. As she repeats the line “I wanna be known,” Bouchard shows her desire for this connection, in a time where people often treat personal relationships like the business correspondences.
“Since I Got Here” shows Bouchard’s struggle of feeling out of place, as she opens the track by describing herself as “just an alien / With no home planet.” In feeling out of place, she expresses the strong desire that she has for the sense of true human connection, and not the sense of loneliness that she portrays throughout the track.
In being vulnerable and sharing her desire to feel like she belongs, Cassie Bouchard hopes to make the listener feel less lonely as they listen to the track, as she hopes to show them that they are not the only one feeling these emotions.
This track is just the beginning to Bouchard’s career, as her debut album, Smile As You Bleed, is set to release on Friday October 30th.
