Saint Mesa is a Chilean-American project that has gained recognition for creating a cinematic, experimental, and dark sound. It blends alternative, electronic, and even orchestral elements to produce epic, modern songs full of energy–pieces that, personally, have deeply moved me.

“Lion” is a clear example of what the project has been developing. The song feels grand and personal, but more importantly, innovative. It incorporates elements of modern pop while avoiding a generic sound, intriguingly blending folk textures with chant-like, organic touches. It also carries an emotional intensity that builds toward the end–an energy that grows progressively and keeps you completely engaged.

There is a clear emotional arc throughout the track. The beginning is mysterious, calm, yet steadily evolving. The chants subtly heighten its emotional pull. The first half feels intimate, giving a sense of control, but as the song progresses, it expands into a fully intense modern pop experience. This epic approach keeps the listener fully immersed. Vocally, Saint Mesa transitions naturally from softness to power, adding versatility and greater impact to the song’s cinematic direction.

At its core, “Lion” represents a turning point rooted in artistic independence.

“I hope people feel inspired to reclaim their own power… I hope people feel empowered to take control of their lives,” the artist explains.

The release is accompanied by a self-directed music video set to premiere on May 8, filmed across Germany in historic castles and natural landscapes. Featuring swordsmen from a HEMA club and handmade costumes and props, the project stands as Saint Mesa’s most ambitious visual work to date, expanding even further on the world behind “Lion.”

“Lion” is out now on all platforms.
