Sometimes the best pop music comes from the most unexpected places, far away from the typical coastal industry hubs. Operating out of Rapid City, South Dakota, 17-year-old singer-songwriter Bijou Belle is bringing a refreshing, organic warmth to the alt-pop scene. Raised in a deeply musical household—with a grandfather, Rocke Grace, who co-wrote the classic rock anthem “Rocky Mountain Way”—Bijou spent her early years touring the Midwest in her sibling band, The RathCo. That grounded, road-tested experience laid the foundation for a songwriting style that feels incredibly natural, blending a distinct Midwestern charm with a hauntingly beautiful, modern indie-pop sensibility.
Lately, Bijou has been taking her sound to much bigger stages. She recently made her national television debut on the latest season of NBC’s The Voice as a standout performer on Team Adam. Following her successful run on the show, she treated fans to a stunning studio rendition of Billie Eilish’s “Wildflower”—the very song that helped put her on the map during the competition—alongside her original single, “Close the Door.” These releases built beautifully on the momentum of her self-titled debut EP, which she recorded with her sibling band just before her television debut, establishing her as a formidable new voice on the national scene.
Her latest single, “Blind Crush,” takes a delightful detour into pure, unfiltered fun. Unlike some of her darker, atmospheric alt-pop material, this track is entirely playful, flirty, and wonderfully fictional. It bottles that exact, dizzying moment where you get so giddy about a new crush that you completely throw logic out the window. The song captures the lighthearted chaos of infatuation, built around bright, infectious melodies that are impossible not to smile at.
It is the kind of feel-good track that invites you to roll down your windows on a long South Dakota highway and just sing along. Bijou and her band lean completely into the butterflies and the humor of it all, recognizing that sometimes music doesn’t need to be heavy to be deeply relatable.
“‘Blind Crush’ was written from that totally irrational headspace where a crush makes you throw logic out the window,” Bijou shares. “It’s a fictional story, but I think everyone can relate to getting caught up in the excitement of someone new. We leaned into the humor, the chaos, and the butterflies because it’s meant to be playful—not deep. It’s just a feel-good song to crank up and have fun with.”
With “Blind Crush,” Bijou Belle and The RathCo prove they can jump between haunting emotional depths and vibrant, lighthearted pop with absolute ease. As she continues to carve out her own space in the music world, she carries her rich musical heritage and Midwestern roots proudly, reminding us all how good it feels to just lose our heads over someone new.
